Food Allergies & Intolerances

In my practice in Sydney I have seen more children presenting with insatiably itchy, red, scaly rashes, which often trigger guilt and self-doubt in the parents. The cause of the increase is uncertain, but research is beginning to explain how food allergies and intolerances have a role to play in medical conditions.

How we can help

Food intolerance
Food intolerance does not involve the immune system at all. Reactions are dose dependent, i.e. small amounts are tolerable, but a large amount may trigger severe symptoms. Identifying a potential food intolerance requires close collaboration with an Accredited  Practising Dietitian to explore the triggers of your symptoms.

Lactose intolerance
People with lactose intolerance are unable to fully digest lactose in milk or milk based products, causing belly cramps, pain, bloating, gas and diarrhoea. We can provide nutrition counselling on what foods to avoid and what to enjoy in minimal amounts to ensure you can still experience a wholesome diet without the dreaded and unpredictable symptoms.

Food allergy
Food allergy involves the immune system reacting to protein compounds in certain foods. Symptoms develop quickly, if not immediately, and may last a few hours or even several days. The symptoms can be life threatening. Together with your medical team we can not only ensure you know how to avoid these life threatening foods but also meet your dietary requirements.
